Our Story

Steve and I were looking for a dog that would be up to all the adventures we wanted in the coming years since we have no children living at home. We love boating, fishing, hiking, off-road riding on our side-by-side, and occasionally hunting. We went in search of a puppy that would not only fit our outdoor lifestyle but would be low to no shedding, loves the water, and a puppy that can be a family pet not just a show dog. After tons and tons of research, we chose the Portuguese Water Dog. We believe these water dogs are the best on the planet and the most versatile. We use our PWDs for fishing, off-road adventures, companionship, therapy dogs and hunting, and bird hunting for household watch/guard dogs.

When we found Macie, it was instant love at first sight! She is super smart, loyal and very loving. She loves fishing and swimming. After about a year with Macie, we felt she needed a playmate, so we went on the search to find another Portie, which led us to Mackey.

Macie & Mackey are perfect together. They play, sleep, and cause trouble together (just kidding!), but they bring us joy, laughter daily and give us all their unconditional love. 

​

Here at M and M River Bar Porties, we are breeders who make a conscious effort not to overbreed and only have one litter a year.   We take breeding seriously and want to ensure all our puppies get all the attention and love they need to make the best pet for our families.

Both parents are UKC Registered, and the pups will be fully UKC registered. When you adopt a pup, you will be provided with impressive pedigree backgrounds, but ultimately, this is a working breed, and our dogs are bred to work. Our PWDs have all been DNA tested and have been cleared of any genetic diseases.

 

We have loved learning about this breed and we are excited to continue to learn and to help this breed by carefully planning and screening the dogs as well as prospective homes to provide healthy, happy forever family members. We are dedicated to achieving excellence and healthy family pets, and we love to raise puppies and prepare them for their forever homes.
